Chandigarh-Ludhiana Railway Link got approved:

This new railway line would connect Chandigarh with Ludhiana and would provide the much needed direct connection between Chandigarh and the cities of Punjab. This project was approved by Central Government during the tenure of Mr. Satya Pal Jain as MP. The work is currently in progress. Once completed, it...

  • Would provide easier and cheaper mode of transport to the public.

  • Would be beneficial to traders and manufacturers of the city.

  • Direct trains to cities of Punjab would be possible.

  • City Residents would get an additional mode of transport to go to Punjab.

'Government orders laying of rail line'

CHANDIGARH, Dec 19 - The Union Government has already ordered the laying of the Chandigarh—Ludhiana rail line and the government is interested in getting on with the project as early as possible, claimed the local MP, Mr Satya Pal Jain.

   Mr Jain met the Union Railway Minister, Mr Nitish Kumar in New Delhi yesterday. Mr Jain requested him that either the Prime Minister or he himself should come to lay the foundation stone of the project in January or February...........

'Ludhiana rail link gets underway'

SAS NAGAR, June 27 — One of the most prestigious railway projects in Punjab in the past 50 years — the Chandigarh-Ludhiana rail link providing a direct link from Chandigarh to all cities of the state besides the Jammu region — finally got underway today.
   The Railway Minister, Mr Nitish Kumar, formally laid the foundation stone of a new railway station here as part of the massive Rs 248 crore project. ...

Development of Chandigarh Railway Station:

A project of Rs 6 crore was approved by the Central Government during the tenure of Sh. Satya Pal Jain for development of the Chandigarh Railway Station. New facilities that were made available under this project include:

  • Technical, maintenance and coaching facilities.

  • Increase in Number of Platforms from 3 to 6.

  • Increase in Length of Platforms to accommodate 21 coaches.

  • Two 'sick lines' for carrying out maintenance and repair work on coaches.

  • A washing line for washing trains.

  • Additional 'shunting neck' to enable locomotives & coaches to switch tracks.

  • Direct entry to the railway station from the satellite township of Panchkula.

New long distant trains to Mumbai, Howrah and Chennai have been introduced after these new facilities became available.

 

'6 Crore railway station project approved'

CHANDIGARH, Sept 7: Decks have been cleared for significant expansion and upgradation of the Chandigarh Railway Station by railway headquarters in Delhi, it is learnt.

   Sources say that direct entry to the railway station from the satellite township of Panchkula has been sanctioned. The project, estimated to cost about Rs 62 lakh, will be the first to be taken up and is expected to begin in about two months. ...
   ...A direct rail link to Ludhiana is also on the anvil and the tracks on this circuit are likely to be laid alongside the road route, which, railway officials say is the shortest distance between Chandigarh and Ludhiana....
   .... Shatabdi Plus, the much-hyped luxurious express train between Delhi and Chandigarh, which was earlier to be launched on August 15, is now scheduled to be flagged-off on October 2.

'Mumbai-Kalka train'

CHANDIGARH, March 4 — The Railways will start a direct express train between Kalka and Mumbai from April 11. The train will run on four days of the week from both the destinations. ...
   ...Sources in the Railways said that the train was being started as a summer special. However, if coaching, berthing and washing facilities were available in Chandigarh by July the train would be a regular feature. Already, a Rs 7 crore project had been sanctioned to build these facilities at the Chandigarh station. ...
   ... Meanwhile the local MP, Mr Satya Pal Jain, in a statement issued tonight said that the Union Railway Ministry had decided to sanction a sum of Rs 7 crore to provide facilities at the Chandigarh railway station. Washing facilities were being provided at platform number 4. Besides this, a shelter was being provided at platform number 2 and 3.

Chandigarh Medical College Project of Rs. 225 Crore:

Although the Central Government had laid the foundation stone of the Chandigarh Medical College in 1991, but the then MP (Mr Pawan Kumar Bansal of the Congress) did not take any steps in this direction.

 

When Mr. Satya Pal Jain was elected Member of Parliament from Chandigarh, ...

  • He got Rs 225 crore sanctioned from the Union Health Ministry in 1996 for the completion of the Chandigarh Medical College Project.

  • Recognition of the College from the Medical Council of India. (It was included in the list of Recognised Medical Colleges by the Medical Council of India vide letter No.MCI-34(41)97-Med/2276 dated 25th April, 1997).

  • He got the college Recognised from Government of India for MBBS Degree. (It was recognised for the award of MBBS degree by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India w.e.f. 30th December, 1996, vide letter No.34(41)98-Med./21035 dated 9th November, 1998).

  • The College was also granted Permanent Affiliation for the MBBS course by the Panjab University for 50 admissions annually during his tenure as MP. (vide letter No.2730/A-4/Misc dated 3rd April, 1999).

Four Laning of Chandigarh-Ambala Road got approved:

This project was approved by the Central Government and the 'Bhumi pujan' was performed by Sh. B C Khanduri, Union Minister for Surface Transport on 17 February, 2004 in the presence of Shri Satya Pal Jain and other dignitaries at Zirakpur.

 

'Minister’s assurance on City-Ambala highway'
Chandigarh, September 26: The Union Minister for Surface Transport and National Highways has assured the member of the National Executive of the BJP, Mr Satya Pal Jain, of taking a decision on widening the Chandigarh-Ambala national highway to four lanes soon.

   Mr Jain, who called upon the minister recently, said he urged the latter to clear the project at the earliest, as the traffic on the highway had increased manifold.......... .

Bhoomi poojan ceremony performed
Zirakpur, February 17: The Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Major-General B. C. Khanduri (retd), today performed the bhumi poojan ceremony for the four-laning of the Ambala-Chandigarh road (NH-22) from km 5.6 to km 40 up to junction with NH-21 under the Pradhanmantri Bharat Jodo Pariyojana (PMBJP).........

   The brief bhoomi poojan ceremony held by the side of the busy highway was attended, among others, by the Governor of Punjab and Administrator of UT, Chandigarh, Justice O. P. Verma (retd), Punjab Minister for PWD, Mr Partap Singh Bajwa, local MLA and former Minister, Capt Kanwaljit Singh, sitting MP from Ambala, Mr R.K. Kataria, and former Chandigarh MP, Mr Satyapal Jain..

Chandigarh Doordarshan Kendra established at Chandigarh:

The construction of Chandigarh Doordarshan Kendra was approved and started during the tenure of Mr. Satya Pal Jain. Smt. Sushma Swaraj (Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting) accompanied by Mr. Satya Pal Jain, Mr. B K Dey (Engineer-in-Chief, Doordarshan) and other senior functionaries of Doordarshan, performed 'Bhoomi Pujan' on 24th July, 1998. It was inaugurated by her on 28th April, 2001. It is the first centre in the country providing services to private producers.

 

'Sushma echos concern on cultural pollution'

CHANDIGARH, July 24 — The Union Minister of Information, Broadcasting and Communications, Mrs Sushma Swaraj, today emphasized the need to provide quality entertainment to the viewers of Doordarshan without compromising the country's cultural ethos and value system. Speaking after "bhoomi pujan" of the Chandigarh studio of Doordarshan here this afternoon, she said.........

'Sushma gifts relay centre with DD studio'

CHANDIGARH, July 24: The City will not only have a Doordarshan studio but a relay centre as well, Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Sushma Swaraj announced today, after laying the foundation stone of a Rs 7.21-crore Doordarshan studio in Sector 37.
   It's strange that the capital of two states has to depend on some other centre," She also announced that the Punjab regional service of DD will telecast programmes from the first week of August. ...
   ... Later, addressing a gathering at Tagore theatre, local MP Satya Pal Jain said the "shilanayas" of the studio was done in 1989 and neither any MP nor any government took pains to start construction.
   ... Local MP Satya Pal Jain suggested that the department should make such plans so that telephones connections are made available in Chandigarh on demand by January 31, 1999.
   He also requested the department to consider the calls for Dera Bassi and nearby areas as local calls. "Most of the people from Chandigarh have set up their industries over there," he said.

'City Gets DD Centre'

Chandigarh, April 28 — Studios of Doordarshan, which were formally opened in Chandigarh today, will be let out for use by private parties to produce programmes, while a full-fledged relay centre will start functioning in the city within one month, said the Union Information and Broadcasting Minister, Mrs Sushma Swaraj, after inaugurating the studios in Sector 37 this morning.......... .

Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme

Comprehensive utilisation of MPLADS has been one of the big achievements of Sh. Satya Pal Jain. It was for the first time that so much development was done under MPLADS in Chandigarh. Infact, Sh. Satya Pal Jain is the first MP from Chandigarh to fully utilize MPLADS Funds received during tenure (utilizing Rs. 99,99,815 out of Rs 1,00,00,000 allotted during his tenure as MP from 1996-98).

[Before this, Rs. 1.17 crore remained unutilized out of the 2.05 crore allotted to the previous MP (Mr. Pawan Kumar Bansal of Indian National Congress) due to Mr. Bansal's ignorance and indifference].

 

A total of 234 projects were recommended by Mr. Satya Pal Jain for implementation under MPLADS.

- 101 Projects were approved & completed.

- 94 Projects were rejected as per the guidelines of MPLADS.

- 39 Projects could not be implemented due to the sudden dissolution of the Lok Sabha in 1999.

 

The 101 approved projects covered various development activities all over the city:

  • Development of more than 72 parks of Chandigarh was done under MPLADS.

  • 13 Community Centres built in various parts of Chandigarh covering both rural and urban areas.

  • Introduction of Computer Education in 9 schools and colleges of Chandigarh. 16 computers were provided in total under MPLADS.

  • 3 Projects for Strengthening of Drinking Water Facilities in the Chandigarh. Hand Pumps, Water Tankers, Boosters, etc were provided under MPLADS.

  • 4 Projects for Strengthening of Health Services in Chandigarh. Funeral Vans, Patient Vans, Ambulances and Vehicle for De-addiction Centre provided under MPLADS.

  • 26 other MPLADS projects including Construction of Students’ Centre in Punjab University Campus, Development of Cremation Grounds, Installation of Street Lights, Construction of Public Toilets, Providing Facilities to the Blind, Extension work of 3rd phase of Rock Garden, etc.
