Take early decision on increasing Old, Widow and Disabled pension from Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 2,000 per month – Satya Pal Jain

Chandigarh February 22, 2019. Sh. Satya Pal Jain, Ex – MP and Chairman of the Social Welfare Committee constituted by the Administrator UT Chandigarh has urged the Chandigarh Administration to take an early decision on the recommendation of the Committee for enhancing the Widow, Old age and Disabled pensions from Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 2,000 per month.

In a letter to Sh. VP Singh Badnore, Administrator UT Chandigarh, Sh. Jain has said that the Social Welfare Committee in its meeting held on 26-11-2018 had unanimously recommended to the Chandigarh Administration to increase the Widow, Old age and Disabled pension from Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 2,000, per month. This recommendation was sent to the higher officers of the Chandigarh Administration on 4-12-2018 and the matter is still pending under consideration of the higher authorities of the Chandigarh Administration.

Mr. Jain said that in Haryana this pension has now been increased from Rs. 1,000 to about Rs. 1,800 – 2,000 per month. The beneficiaries of this scheme are people who need more social and economic protection from the society. In this view of the matter there is an urgent need to increase the pension at an early date.

Mr. Jain also said that the code of conduct is likely to be imposed in the first or second week of March. Therefore, it will be better if a final decision is taken on this recommendation before that, otherwise the matter might get delayed by another 3 – 4 months.

Increase the number of CGHS Dispensaries in Chandigarh, Satya Pal Jain to Union Health Minister

Chandigarh, February 19, 2019. Sh. Satya Pal Jain, Ex-City MP and Additional Solicitor General of India has urged the Central Government to increase the number of Central Government Health Services Dispensaries in Chandigarh from one to at least five.

Sh. Jain had raised this issue in the last meeting of the Governor’s Advisory Council also where the Governor had assured him of looking into the matter.

In a letter to the Union Health Minister, Sh. Jain said that there are a total of about 31,000 Central Government employees, both sitting and retirees who are entitled for medical assistance from the CGHS dispensary in Chandigarh. But there is a total staff of only about 22 employees, working day and night to attend to the huge rush of patients in this dispensary.

Sh. Jain said that during the previous NDA Government in 2003, when Smt. Sushma Swaraj was the Union Health Minister, she had agreed to increase the number of CGHS dispensaries in Chandigarh from one to five. However, after the Congress Government came to power in 2004, it did not do anything in that direction.

He said that one dispensary for 31,000 employees is highly inadequate. He said, when our Prime Minister, Sh. Narendra Modi Ji is trying to extend the benefit of medical facilities to each and every citizen of India, it is essential that in Chandigarh there are at least five CGHS dispensaries so that the senior citizens and other such Central Government employees, both sitting and retirees can avail all those facilities.
