BJP observes 'sankalp divas'

Chandigarh, December 23: The local unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party observed ‘ sankalp divas’ at the party office in Sector 33 here today with party workers being administered the oath on “maintaining the unity and integrity of the country at any cost”. They resolved that they would fight terrorism till their last breath and support every step taken by the Central Government in that direction’.

        Addressing the gathering, Mr Satya Pal Jain, a former member of Parliament said the entire nation at this critical juncture was behind Mr Atal Behari Vajpayee, Prime Minister. He said the step to recall its High Commissioner from Pakistan formed part of a well-planned and calculated strategy.

BJP supports UT employees' demand

Chandigarh, October 30: The local unit of the BJP, has supported the demand of bonus to the UT employees and urged the Union Home Minister, Mr L.K. Advani, to take an immediate decision on the demand.
        The unit also welcomed the UT Administrator’s move of sending a letter of the demand to the minister. In a joint statement, Mr Yash Pal Mahajan, Convener of the BJP Ad hoc Committee, Chandigarh, Mr Satya Pal Jain, former Member Parliament and Mr Dharam Paul Gupta, former president of the unit, said the local MP, Mr Pawan Kumar Bansal, had proved unsuccessful as an MP. They also condemned the MP for “supporting” the strike by the UT employees union even after it was postponed sine die.
        The statement said the employees had earlier met Mr Jain with their demands and the latter had forwarded the memorandum to Mr Advani.

Jain seeks CBI probe into drowning incident

SAS Nagar, August 12: A former Member of Parliament, Mr Satya Pal Jain, has written to the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister, seeking a CBI inquiry into the incident of drowning of a 13-year-old boy Karanbir at the Phase 6 swimming pool here last week.
        The was disclosed by the Mr Jain at the antim ardas ceremony for the deceased at Gurdwara Granth Sahib in Sector 55 near here. ...

DD centre to be inaugurated on April 28

Chandigarh, April 6: After a long wait, the local Doordarshan Kendra will finally be inaugurated on April 28.
        Announcing this at a press conference at the Chandigarh Press Club here today, the Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Ms Sushma Swaraj, said the inauguration had been delayed because sufficient staff had not been posted at the centre yet. “I want it to be operational the next day of the inauguration,” she quipped.
        It may be recalled that the foundation stone of the kendra was laid by Ms Swaraj in 1998. The kendra is ready and awaiting inauguration for quite some time now.
        In fact, a former MP, Mr Satya Pal Jain, during whose tenure the foundation stone was laid, had issued written statements several times saying that the kendra would be inaugurated soon. In one such statement, he had stated that it would be inaugurated by Ms Swaraj in the “first week of April”. ...

 

MC workers' unions thank Jain

Chandigarh, April 6: Various unions of the local Municipal Corporation, have expressed their gratitude to a former Member of Parliament, Mr Satya Pal Jain, for taking up their demand of treating the transferred employees to MC on deputation with MC with the Union Home Minister, Mr L.K. Advani.
        Mr Jain had, on March 30, taken a delegation of MC employees to New Delhi to discuss their demand with the Home Minister. The employees reportedly thanked Mr Advani for assuring them that he would take up the issue of necessary amendment in the Act at the earliest. These unions are Chandigarh Municipal Corporation (CMC) Roads Workers Union; MC Mechanical Workers Union; Water Supply Employees Union; CMC Public Health Workers Union; CMC Horticulture Workers Union; Chandigarh Public Health Worker Union; Health Department Driver Workers Union; UT Building Maintenance Workers Union and MC Employees Union.

Employees' leaders submit memo to Advani

Chandigarh, April 2: A delegation of various leaders of employees’ organisations of Chandigarh, led by Mr Satya Pal Jain, a former MP, met the Union Home Minister, Mr L.K. Advani, in Delhi yesterday and submitted him a memorandum.
        The memorandum demanded the immediate amendment in the Punjab Municipal Corporation Act, as applicable to Chandigarh, for providing that those employees of the Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh, who were transferred to the corporation from the Chandigarh Administration, be treated on deputation.
        The delegation informed Mr Advani that on December 15,1998, he as the Home Minister, in a reply to a question put up Mr Jain, had stated in Parliament in writing that the government had decided to treat the employees of the Administration deemed on deputation to the civic body. ...
       ... Meanwhile, Mr Jain urged the Administration to accept the pending demands of the “rehriwalas” and “phariwalas”. Mr Jain, who was speaking at a “Bhagwati Jagran” organised by the Sabzi Mandi Rehri Workers Union at the Sector 26 Sabzi Mandi last night, said “rehri” and “phari” markets were an integral part of the city and provided an alternative to the lower and middle class shoppers.

Satya Pal Jain's plea to Governor

Chandigarh, March 14: A former MP, Mr Satya Pal Jain, has urged the Administrator, Lieut-Gen JFR Jacob (retd), to delink the clause of removal of alterations from the ownership rights to the general power of attorney holders of the Chandigarh Housing Board flats.
        In a letter to General Jacob, Mr Jain also wanted that the flats should be transferred on nominal rates as demanded by the CHB Residents Federation.
        Since the demand was pending for several years, it demands your personal attention, he added.

'Help us help quake victims'

CHANDIGARH, March 3 — A former local MP, Mr Satya Pal Jain, today urged the Chandigarh Administration to take public representatives into confidence about the contingency plan prepared by it to meet any eventuality, which might arise because of an earthquake here.
        Mr Jain was addressing an all-religion prayer meeting in the Palsora Colony, organised by the Ekta Rehri Market Welfare Society, Sectors 55 and 56, to pay homage to those killed in the Gujarat earthquake.
        The local administration should not take anything for granted in the wake of the catastrophe in Gujarat and include the political and non-political representatives in the three-member committee, he added.

DD relay centre in Sec 37 soon

CHANDIGARH, Jan 14 — A relay centre of Doordarshan will be inaugurated in Sector 37 here by the Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Ms Sushma Swaraj, next month. This was announced by Mr Satya Pal Jain, a former local MP, who met the minister in New Delhi recently. “The date of the inauguration will be worked out in a few days,” Mr Jain added.

DD centre to function from February

CHANDIGARH, Jan 12 — The local Doordarshan relay centre will start functioning from February next.
        The Union Information and Broadcasting Minister, Ms Sushma Swaraj,will inaugurate it, according to Mr Satya Pal Jain, former MP. He said. he called on Ms Sushma Swaraj yesterday in Delhi and informed her that the building of the relay centre had been completed. .
        The bhoomi pujan for this building was performed by Ms Swaraj in July 1998. The project was scheduled to be completed last year. ...
