Shimla: As the cold weather settles in the hills, heat of the political
battle being staged is only heating up with the BJP today seeking an
unqualified apology from chief minister Virbhadra Singh for allegedly
having cast aspersions at the functioning of the Election Commission.
BJP Party incharge for Himachal, Satpal Jain today sought to know
from the congress leadership of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA
Chairperson Sonia Gandhi as to how a chief minister had been permitted
to make derogatory statements against heads of constitutional bodies.
Jain was referring about remarks attributed to the chief minister
of having alleged that the Election Commission was working at the behest
of LK Advani, the BJP leader. ...

SHIMLA: The Bharatiya Janata Party has declared that the recent media
exposé of Gujarat riots and role of Narendra Modi will not have any
impact on the coming elections in Himachal Pradesh.
While addressing a press conference here over the weekend, in
charge of BJP national legal cell Satpal Jain has said that
Congress party should not forget its own role in the 1984 riots in Delhi
and other parts of the country. Every State has its own politics and
there would be a negligible response to such biased reports in Himachal,
said Mr. Jain, who is also monitoring the BJP election management in
Himachal Pradesh.
Mr. Jain who will address various front organisations of the party
said BJP will come out with its manifesto in few days.
He said the programme of various national leaders coming for
campaign in the hill State has also been finalised. The party will
organise 350 public meetings before the elections at all levels and
there would be a huge youth rally in Mandi on Nov. 18.

Tuesday October 23: Taking a lead, the BJP on Monday declared its
candidates for three Assembly seats, which are scheduled to go to polls
on November 14. Briefing the media, in-charge of Himachal Pradesh BJP
and ex-MP Satyapal Jain, said Tejwant Singh Negi will contest
from Kinnaur constituency, while Tulsi Ram and Ram Lal Markandey will
fight elections from Bharmour and Lahaul and Spiti constituencies
respectively. The announcement came following a Central Election
Committee (CEC) meeting held here on Monday evening. ...

PALAMPUR, 19 Oct 2007: Mr. Sat Pal Jain, senior BJP leader and
in-charge H.P. state BJP affairs, today categorically stated that BJP
would not announce the name of Chief Ministerial candidate for H.P.
Pradesh before the completion of assembly elections in the state. He
said both Mr. Shanta Kumar and Prem Kumar Dhumal would campaign for the
success of BJP in the state and after the completion of poll process in
the state the BJP parliamentary board would announce the name of Chief
Ministerial candidate in consultation with the party MLAs of the state.
